The Fellowship of the Ring: Being the First Part of The Lord of the Rings
The Fellowship of the Ring: Being the First Part of The Lord of the Rings
For over fifty years, J.R.R. Tolkien’s peerless fantasy has accumulated worldwide acclaim as the greatest adventure tale ever written.
No other writer has created a world as distinct as Middle-earth, complete with its own geography, history, languages, and legends. And no one has created characters as endearing as Tolkien’s large-hearted, hairy-footed hobbits. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings continues to seize the imaginations of readers of all ages, and this new three-volume paperback edition is designed to appeal to the youngest of them.

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elvensmiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, still it remained lost to him . . .

Chinese Methodist

Chinese Methodist
Chinese United Methodist Church, Chinatown District, San Francisco CA

"The Chinese United Methodist Church is located in the heart of San Francisco Chinatown. With a rich history of ministry of 141 years in the community, the church continues to minister to new immigrants as well as second and third generation English-speaking Chinese. The four worship services reflect the diversity of the church community: English-speaking contemporary, Cantonese speaking contemporary, Children’s worship, Cantonese-speaking Traditional. – For the past two years, the church is seeing an influx of English-speaking youth, Chinese-speaking young adults, and recent immigrant families with young children from mainland China. The church seeks a balance of outreach and in-reach ministries. A yearly summer day camp allows the young people who serve as leaders to cultivate their leadership skills while reaching out to the children in the community. The Christian Education program consists of Sunday school classes from pre-K to senior adults and home Bible studies. Fellowship groups give support to senior adults, youth, and young adults. The music program consists of three praise bands, the sanctuary choir and a children’s choir. The location of the church offers a unique opportunity for ministry in the urban context and the challenge for the church is to remain open to the many people who come through its doors"
